 WELCOME TO THE BLOG OF THE LIBERIA WATCH FOR HUMAN RIGHTS INC. (LWHR) -ESTABLISHED 1992-

Liberia Watch for Human Rights (LWHR) was established in 1992, to serve as a non-governmental and not-for-profit voluntary human rights organization. Our purpose is to expand the scope of civil liberties of all citizens, non-nationals and residents in Liberia as well as to advocate on crucial rights based issues that are imperative in the process of good governance.
LWHR is legally registered at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs as a non-political entity under the laws of the Republic of Liberia. There is also a 5-Member Board of Directors.
 
MANDATE: Campaign for Environmental and Socio-Economic Rights in Liberia
The organization’s activities include, but not limited to:
 
  • The monitoring, investigation, reporting and publication of human rights abuses;
  • Para-legal assistance;
  •  Human rights education, awareness raising and advocacy in rural communities;
  •  Human resource development;
  •  Conflict management/resolution
  • Environmental, socio-economic and cultural rights campaign

    Liberia Watch for Human Rights operates and maintains regional offices in the following counties:
     

  •  Voinjama city, Lofa County;
  • Tiennie township, Grand Cape Mount Count
  •  Ganta city, Nimba County and
  •  Buchanan city, Grand Bassa County.
 
The organization operations are enhanced through the following divisions:

·        Research and Documentation
·        Human Resource Development
·        Environmental Monitor
·        Humanitarian Assistance Unit (Peace Keepers children pilot program)

  • Affiliate member, FRONT LINE-International Foundation for the Protection of Human Rights Defenders, based in Dublin, Ireland
  • Member, World Organization Against Torture (OMCT), based in Geneva, Switzerland
